Our Vision
We dream of a world where administration and organization are not associated with endless paperwork, paralyzing decision-making processes, and wasted resources – but with speed, clarity, and innovation.
The Efficient Governance Initiative (EGI) was founded in 2025 by students at the University of Zurich (under patronage of VSUZH) with precisely this goal: to challenge inefficient structures, understand their causes, and work together to develop concrete approaches to make processes in politics, business, technology, and society leaner, more transparent, and more effective.
Who We Are
EGI is an independent, non-denominational student association, open to students of all Zurich universities – and beyond, to anyone interested in efficient process design.
We are still young and small in terms of membership, but ambitious in our goals. Our strength lies in combining fresh perspectives and critical questions with professional expertise.
What We Do
At the core of our work are public educational events – panel discussions, workshops, and lectures – open to everyone interested.
We bring together renowned experts from government, politics, business, and academia with students and young thinkers.
Our goal is not only to share knowledge but to spark discussion and jointly design solutions. Perhaps something larger will grow from this in the future.
Our Topics
The range of our topics reflects the fact that efficiency matters everywhere – whether in state structures, international organizations, or technological innovations. We are broadly positioned and will host events across diverse fields.
Planned events include, among others:
- Efficiency of the Chinese economy – from record-speed hospital construction to strategic planning logic
- The Swiss healthcare system and insurance – opportunities and challenges for more efficient structures
- Mistakes in implementing the DoGE project – lessons from practice
- Integrating Artificial Intelligence to optimize processes
- NATO and rearmament in Europe – security policy efficiency or inefficiency?
- The presidency of Javier Milei – how to fight state bureaucracy
- Further events on current, socially relevant issues
How We Work
We focus on:
- Interactive exchange: events with room for questions, discussion, and critical reflection
- Practical relevance: guests from government, NGOs, business, research, and diplomacy share first-hand experience
- Networking: cooperation with institutions such as the Asia Institute at the University of Zurich and international representations
Why EGI Matters
Bureaucratic inefficiency is more than just an annoyance – it can block progress, waste resources, and undermine trust in institutions.
EGI seeks to empower students and young adults to understand systems, clearly identify problems, and actively contribute to improvements.
We believe that efficient governance is the foundation for sustainable development, political stability, and economic success.
Get Involved!
Whether as an active member with opportunities to help shape our work or as a guest at our events – every perspective counts.
EGI thrives on commitment, open debate, and people willing to challenge outdated structures.
